HEAD OF LABORATORY

Prof. MBACHAM Wilfred

I am Prof. Wilfred Mbacham, a dedicated Titular Professor of Public Health Biotechnology, Malarialogist, and Molecular Infectiologist. In my role as Curriculum and Capacity Developer, President of the Fobang Foundation, and head of LAPHER-Biotech, I have had the privilege of contributing to the advancement of scientific knowledge and healthcare. Currently, I am honored to hold the position of Chair of the Unit for Research and Graduate Training in Life Sciences at the esteemed University of Yaoundé I. My commitment to fostering international collaboration is further exemplified by my role as the elected Chair of the Program Management Committee of the International Atomic Energy Agency-AFRA program, representing 41 African member states since November 2015, with a renewed term in 2018.

In addition to my academic and research endeavors, I actively participate in several impactful responsibilities. Serving as the Chair of the Board of Trustees for The Malaria Consortium since 2023, I am passionately dedicated to the fight against malaria. Furthermore, I proudly hold the position of President of the National Ethics Committee for Research involving Humans in Cameroon, a role I have undertaken since 2023. My involvement in critical initiatives, such as the Ministry of Higher Education’s Task Force to validate the Khleda Anti-Covid19 Therapy (2020 – 2022) and my role as a Consultant/Resource Person on the Board of Directors at IMPM, MINRESI (2020 – 2021), reflects my commitment to addressing pressing global health challenges. It is my sincere belief that through collaborative efforts and innovative approaches, we can create a lasting impact on public health and contribute to the betterment of society.

Dr. Netongo M. Palmer.

HeadThe Molecular Diagnostic Research Group (MDRG) which I founded and lead has its laboratory based in the Biotechnology Centre of The University of Yaounde I.

I have been teaching molecular biology and basic immunology to undergraduate and graduate classes in research methods, advanced immunology and molecular biology since 2011 when I joined the University of Yaounde I (UNYAO I) as permanent Lecturer.

Dr. AKINDEH M. NJI

Head of the Clinical and Laboratory Data Management Unit at the Biotechnology center of the University of Yaoundé I.

I have been teaching bio-statistics at the Faculty of Medicine and the Faculty of Science of the University of Yaounde 1 to graduates on research methods and molecular biology to undergraduates since 2014. I am a permanent lecturer at the University of Yaounde 1.

Pr. INNOCENT MBULLI ALI

I carryout research on malaria, molecular epidemiology and host response in pathogen infections..

I have been teaching Molecular Biology at The Dschang School of Science and Technology of the University of Dschang to graduates on research methods and molecular biology to undergraduates.

I am an Associate Professor at the University of Dschang

Dr; RHODA BUGHE

Dr. BUGHE Rhoda NSEN

Rhoda holds a bachelor and a master degree in Microbiology. She received a female scientist award in 2001 during her undergraduate study. She was awarded a PhD in Fisheries in 2017. Her specialty is Microbiology and domain of research is food safety and disease control through antimicrobial and probiotics. Rhoda is a lecturer in the department of Biological Sciences, Higher Teacher’s Training College, University of Yaounde 1.

TATOU Fidele Alain

Gestionnaire de Projet et Développement de carrière du projet MARCAD Cameroon au Centre de Biotechnologie de l’Université de Yaoundé 1, Administrateur de HEWAMI Foundation, Chercheur en Développement International et Diplômé en sciences de gestion de l’Institut Universitaire de Technologies de Douala.

Il est étudiant en Master 2 en Développement International à l’Institut Universitaire de Développement International (IUDI), titulaire d’une Licence de Technologie en Organisation et Développement de la Petite et Moyenne Entreprise (ODPME), d’un Diplôme universitaire de Technologie (DUT) en Gestion Appliquée aux Petites et Moyennes Organisations (GAPMO) et d’un Baccalauréat G2 en Techniques Quantitatives de Gestion.

Dr. CHEDJOU KENGNE Jean Paul

The Lab Manager of the Laboratory of public health biotechnologies of the University Of Yaounde 1 Field Implementation Assistant of DHAPP projects, METABIOTA Cameroon January 2018 till date, Temporary teacher at the Department of Biochemistry of the University of Yaounde I during the year 2015 and 2017, he is Professor MBACHAM WILFRED FON assistant for the organization and delivery of courses in Molecular biology, bioinformatics, biostatistics, research methodology, communication and management to students of master’s degree I Biochemistry of the University of Yaounde I.

Jean Paul is a lecturer in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, of the Faculty of Science, in the University of Buea, located in Buea, in Cameroon

Aristid Ekollo MBANGE

Dr. ARISTID EKOLLO MBANGE

Aristid is a holder of a Master of Science and PhD candidate in Biochemistry from the University of Yaoundé I (UYI). His Masters’ thesis focused on the molecular speciation of malaria parasites in the North-West region of Cameroon and showed malaria infections in this region were mostly due to mixed infections predominantly P. falciparum/P. malariae. At the Biotechnology Centre (BTC) of UYI, Aristid actively participated in several research projects, on malaria notably, between 2010 and 2014.

Aristid is a lecturer in the University Institute of Technology, at the University of Ngaoundere, located in the town of Ngaoundere, in Cameroon

Dr. GUEWO FOKENG Magellan

Dr. GUEWO FOKENG Magellan

Dr. GUEWO FOKENG Magellan I am a PhD holder and a Lecturer of Molecular Biology and Genetics in the Department of Biochemistry, Faculty of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, at the University of Yaounde I. I am an expert in the domain of Genetics of Cardio-metabolic diseases. My research interests are in molecular epidemiology of non-communicable diseases especially diabetes and their impact on the health care system of developing countries.

Dr. MADAHA-LONGLA-ESTELLE

Estelle LONGLA MADAHA, obtained a PhD in Biochemistry in 2021 from the University of Yaoundé 1, Cameroon. During the past 10 years, I conducted research in the field of Medical Microbiology with a particular focus on phenotypic and genotypic characterization of virulence traits and Antimicrobial Resistance in Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Acinetobacter baumannii. Since May 2020, I am a team manager in a clinical laboratory for COVID-19 diagnostic, which exposed me to a new research area and gave me the opportunity to enhance my team management abilities as a team leader. I have also taught Medical Bacteriology and Molecular Biology at several Higher Education Health Institutes and supervised students for their degree. I am a member of the Cameroonian Society for Microbiology (CASOMI) since its creation in 2018, and was a member of the Scientific Committee for the 1st International Microbiology Days 2021 organized by CASOMI.

Dr. Sharon Ngwafor Mbacham

Dr. Sharon Ngwafor Mbacham is a distinguished alumna of our laboratory, currently making impactful strides as a Clinical Pathologist at CHRACERH(Le Centre Hospitalier de Recherche et d’Application en Chirurgie Endoscopique et Reproduction Humaine de Yaoundé). Her journey in medicine began at Universite des Montagnes, where she earned her MD degree. Driven by a passion for advancing healthcare, she further honed her expertise with a Masters from the Faculty of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences. Dr. Mbacham’s commitment to the field and her continuous pursuit of excellence exemplify the spirit of our alumni community, making us proud to feature her as a prominent member on our lab’s website.
